The first USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) Type-C® HV LDO for Dead Battery Applications is launched

Hsinchu, May 29, 2025 -- Fortune Advanced Technology today launched its first-ever USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) Type-C® HV LDO for Dead Battery Applications
The USB PD 3.1 EPR(48V) HV LDO product FA2254 of Fortune Advanced Technology supports input voltage up to 70V and has two versions: fixed 3.3V output voltage and fixed 5.0V output voltage. For more information, please refer to "Home > Products > USB Type-C Solutions > HV LDO for Dead Battery".
Dead Battery Mode is an important design in the USB Type-C® specification to ensure that the device can still be charged or powered on through the USB Type-C® port when it is “completely unpowered”. One application scenario is that when a mobile phone or laptop runs out of battery and cannot be turned on, it must still allow the user to plug in a USB Type-C® charging cable to start charging. In this case, because the main controller chip (such as USB PD Controller) has not been powered and cannot be started, the device itself cannot actively perform the USB PD communication protocol, but it must let the power source (such as the charger) know that it needs to be powered. The device will pull a Rd resistor (pull-down resistor) to ground on its CC1 and CC2 (Configuration Channel) pins to tell the charger that the device is a Sink (a device that needs to be powered). When the charger detects Rd, it provides a default 5V voltage on VBUS and starts charging.
Our FA2254 is a single-chip high-voltage linear regulator suitable for Dead Battery applications in the USB Type-C® specification. The VBUS of the USB Type-C® port is used to supply the FA2254, which outputs a 3.3V or 5.0V voltage to the USB PD Controller. Then, it can perform the USB PD communication protocol and work with the charger to increase the amount of power it can use to charge its battery. In particular, the VBUS voltage of USB PD 3.1 EPR Mode is as high as 28V/36V/48V. FA2254 supports a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 70V, which can meet the various voltage requirements of USB PD 3.0 5V~20V and USB PD 3.1 EPR Mode.
The FA2254 maintains low quiescent current over a wide range of input voltages and provides well-regulated output voltage over a wide range of input voltages (Great Line Regulation), and can withstand and maintain regulated output voltage during input voltage transients (Great Line-transient Response). Also, it can provide well-regulated output voltage at various load currents under various input voltages (Great Load Regulation), and can withstand and maintain regulated output voltage during load current transients (Great Load-transient Response).
FA2254 also provides various protection functions, including short-circuit protection at the output, over-current protection, and over-temperature protection.
FA2254 provides three packages, including miniaturized and high thermal-performance packaging, to meet different considerations such as heat dissipation, PCB area, and price.
FA2254 can also be applied to the standby power source for battery power systems (e.g., E-Cigarettes, Wireless Ear Phone Charging Boxes), battery-powered microprocessor applications or modules, power tools, fans, and industrial applications.

Package and availability
The FA2254 will be available in SOT23-5L, DFN2X2-6L, and SOT223-3L packages through authorized distributors in June 2025. Full and custom quantity reels are available.
